Cooking For Zita

Welcome

Cooking for Zita is a collection of recipes and stories of the care and comfort experienced by people diagnosed with cancer. The book offers suggestions of how to help those touched by cancer, and recipes for foods easy to make and share. The book provides an insightful look into how support and concern are expressed through our cooking.

Zita Ganza was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. For her, kindness was packaged in jars of homemade tomato juice to sooth the burning effects of chemotherapy and found in the home-cooked meals delivered to her door. Cooking for Zita doesn’t follow just one woman’s journey; it is a story of many whose hearts and souls were nourished by such giving. It is a testament to the people whose muffins, potato pancakes and pots of chili have brought great joy to family, friends and perfect strangers.

With this book, we hope to cook up more kindness for those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Proceeds benefit the Cancer Resource Centre, a place of care and comfort for individuals diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones. The Cancer Resource Centre in Munster, Indiana provides free-of-charge support services, mind-body programs and a lending library for individuals affected by cancer. It is supported by the Community Hospital Cancer Research Foundation and by the generosity of people like you.
